No. A referral isn’t required to make an appointment with Fitzmaurice Hand Institute and it is not required by most of the PPO insurance plans in which we participate. However, we do welcome physician referrals and we are dedicated to keeping your doctor in the loop about your care, condition and progress.
At The Fitzmaurice Hand Institute, we’re usually able to schedule your Arizona hand surgery within one week, not three to six weeks (or longer) as is too often the case with many providers. Part of our unique dedication to excellence in minimally invasive hand surgery is to get you in for your treatment —and then back to living your life as quickly as possible.
For your consultation, you’ll be seen at The Fitzmaurice Hand Institute, but your surgery will be performed in our private, state-of-the-art surgical center. Generally, consultations occur on office days, and surgeries take place on different days. However, some treatments at The Fitzmaurice Institute are performed in-office. Depending on your condition and your particular treatment plan, it may be possible to perform an in-office procedure during the same visit as your consultation. We are working to further increase the types of procedures we can perform the same day we see our patients.
The short answer: No. Because Dr. Fitzmaurice uses the most advanced minimally-invasive techniques available today, precision is maximized and disturbance of surrounding tissues is minimized. So the procedures Dr. Fitzmaurice performs don’t require general anesthesia and don’t require that you be “put asleep.” However, some procedures are best performed when patients are relaxed, commonly known as “twilight” anesthesia. However, most procedures are performed using only local anesthetic, with you alert and facing a much quicker recovery.
The duration of your recovery time is dependent on multiple factors, including the type of procedure you have, your general health and more. Recovery times for Fitzmaurice Hand Institute patients in Arizona are generally very short. Our focus on leading-edge, minimally-invasive techniques mean less surgical impact, smaller incisions, less tissue disturbance and better visualization. Our precision surgical repair results in less scarring and the quickest possible recovery.
For several reasons, Fitzmaurice Hand Institute patients can expect the barest minimum of discomfort. Just like duration of the recovery period, the level of postoperative pain/discomfort depends on the precision and invasiveness of the surgical approach. Using the most advanced minimally-invasive tools and technique available today, your California orthopedic procedure is performed with unsurpassed skill and experience. This results in only very minimal discomfort, which is why most of our patients need nothing more than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) following their procedure.
Again, your downtime is minimal because The Fitzmaurice Institute utilizes the most advanced, precise and low-impact surgical methods. In fact, minimizing downtime (along with reducing discomfort and optimizing outcomes) is a main reason why most of our patients return to full activities in a matter of days -not weeks.
The costs associated with your procedure depend on a variety of factors. Our procedures are generally covered by PPO insurance. Of course, the fee structures vary between the different providers and plans. Our knowledgeable staff is always available to help your determine the costs, including the out-of-pocket expenses, associated with your care. The Fitzmaurice Hand Institute offers a very competitive fee structure, and with our vast experience, unique capabilities and an exceptional success rate, we provide a truly superb value.
